Why MK chose this piece: love the muddy, muted color palette; original frame is AMAZING and adds so much character; Daniel Brustlein was a painter and cartoonist, most well-known for the cartoons and cover art that he contributed to The New Yorker between 1930-1950 under the name “Alain.” Writer John Updike once said his childhood discovery of Brustlein’s work is what made him want to work for the magazine.
